We built Garage Sale Finder to make it easy for Ontario neighbours to find and share garage sales. Keeping your information safe is important to us. This page explains in plain language what we collect and what we do with it.
When you list a garage sale
To post your sale, we ask for your address, sale details, and email address. Your address and sale details appear publicly on the map so buyers can find you. Your email address is kept private — we use it only to let you edit or delete your listing, and to send you a verification link when you first submit.
When you subscribe to sale alerts
When you subscribe, we ask for your email address, your city or postal code, and how far you’d like us to search for sales. We use this to send you a weekly Friday preview of upcoming garage sales near you, and occasional alerts when a new sale is listed in your area. You can update your location and radius preferences, or unsubscribe completely, at any time using the link in any email we send you.
We never sell your information
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone. Full stop.
Services we use to run this site
A few trusted services help us operate Garage Sale Finder. When you use our site, your data may pass through these services as part of normal operation:
- Mapbox — when you enter an address or city, we use Mapbox to find its location on the map. Only the address or city text is sent to Mapbox — nothing else.
- Brevo — we use Brevo to send emails (verification, alerts, and weekly digests). Your email address is stored on Brevo’s servers to make this possible.
- OpenStreetMap — the map tiles (the visual map itself) are provided by OpenStreetMap. No personal data is shared with them.
Each of these services is bound by its own privacy policy and handles data responsibly. We only share the minimum information needed.
How long we keep your data
- Garage sale listings are automatically deleted 7 days after your sale ends
- Subscriber information is kept until you unsubscribe
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to see what information we hold about you, correct anything that’s wrong, or delete it entirely. Just email us at admin@garagesalefinder.ca and we’ll take care of it promptly.
Cookies
We only use the essential cookies that WordPress needs to function. We don’t use any tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies.
